This report explores the experience of homelessness for families and children and the impact of child homelessness in later life. The study involved a review of the Australian research literature, a policy and practice workshop, and interviews in New South Wales with homeless mothers and adults who had experienced homeless as a child. Topics include: the intergenerational transmission of homelessness, homelessness as a safer alternative to domestic violence, the impact of homelessness on individuals, and how support services can provide parenting and socio-emotional benefits and break the cycle. The report is illustrated with the stories of families who have experienced homelessness.
